Records of the Catholic Church in Italy are written nearly always in Latin. Records from areas which were once part of France or Austria may be written in French or German.
PRIEST OF THE PARISH OF (name of parish)
I believe that my ancestor, (name), son of (names of parents), was baptized in your parish in about (year of birth). I will appreciate it very much if you could seek his baptism record and the marriage record of his parents and if found send me extracts with the names of parents as given in each entry.
NOTE: Instead of "I'Atto di matrimonio dei suoi genitori" (the marriage records of his parents), you could ask for the baptism records of all of Paul's brothers and sisters, "gli atti di battesimo di tutti i fratelli e sorelle del sudetto Paolo" (the baptism records of all the brothes and sisters of the said Paolo). Burial record/records=Atto/atti di sepultura.
Enclosed is a cashier's check for $_________. If it is not enough, please informa me of the additional amount to send.
Thank you kindly for your help,
($5.00 for the first record requested and $2.00 for each additional one. Note: If you are only requesting one or two records, of which you have the year, then $5.00 would be enough.)
