This is a brief explanation of what it takes to create a place on the web.
First of all, a project like this takes dedication and is very time consuming.
A person should have an eagerness to learn, be unique and reflect yourself
through your web pages.
Here are some helpful steps:
1.)First,decide what you want to say to people through your webpages.
2.)Lay out your page on paper and how you want to set it up.
3.)Learn some basic html from books or using a page editor which is
usually available from each place where you sign up for web space.
With a page editor,it is like a template and you just fill in the blanks
of what you want to say and it is done for you by pushing a button.easy.
4.)Pick out which colors you would like for your background, letters, links,
5.)Search out what kind of graphics you would like to use on your pages.
I chose "victorian graphics" which works well with my pages. There are many
types of graphics such as victorian, country, crafty, sporty, etc.Find them by
submitting the words for example"craft graphics" in each search engine and
then you will have to visit each site until you find your favorites. When
you find your favorites, click on your mouse(right button) and "save as" to
your hard drive. Name them anything that you would like to name them.Always
remember where you save them. Most people that design and share graphics
have a logo that you can link back to them with. Give them credit for
sharing with you. You need to upload them to your homepage studio, later.
6.)You can get free webspace from many places on the internet. My favorites are:http://www.tripod.com and http:www.angelfire.com,there are many more.
To keep people visiting my pages I add new things like the following:
*I offer Free Abruzzo Lookups:
I will voluntarily do free lookups of all the telephone books I have from
Italy. The cities offered are listed on my web pages.
*An Italian Surnames thru Email Pages:
These are pages designed specifically to help other people that share my
Italian Heritage some where in their genealogy and family history's or have
an interest in finding their lost loved ones of Italian heritage. Each
person that visits my page can submit as many Italian Surnames as they wish.
I donate my time to post them to my pages, link each surname with a valid
email address and encourage email communications to find lost loved ones.
This is a free service by me, to you.
I offer links for places related to my pages like Italian recipes,Italian
genealogy,Italian American Personal Home Pages, New Articles I write, Hints
to help people with their genealogy searches and many more things.
*My Email Address:
*A Guestbook to sign and view:
This is a place where other's can submit any information they would like to
share like Italian surnames and more. And other's can search through all of
the submitted information.
*Copyright your information:
You want to copyright your information at the bottom of each page you post.
Others may use your information if your information is not copyrighted by you.
*Create Links in more Languages:
Try to create links in other languages or supply a button that will
translate your pages for you. There are many people in other countries of
the world that want to take part in the valuable information with in web
*Create an Italian Recipe Page:
I have a curiousity of learning new Italian Recipes. This is a great way to
obtain new recipes.
*Other special things I do are to make my pages unique:
I change my layout on my pages to keep people visiting to see what is new,
updating any new information and posting when I updated each page, Add new
pages and when I submit other's Italian Surnames at least once a week,if I
see repeated surnames, I try and match people up by writing to them and
telling the that other's are searching for their surnames,I join webrings of
Italian Genealogy interest. This let's people with your same interests visit
your pages. There are also online genealogy newsletters and groups like "Pie"
that help connect to Italian heritage and genealogy."Point" is an excellent
group to join through the mail.
My accomplishments from being persistant with my Surname Pages
1.)I get a lot of mail from my story I have had posted for a couple years
now. I have recently pulled it from the net to expand it into my book.
2.)Upon going to Italy, I have been published in a book from my city of
Torrevecchia Teatina Chieti,Abruzzo,Italy. A page is dedicated to me in the
Torrevecchia Teatina Elementary Year Book for having the courage to seek out
my roots and find my cousins after a 85 year silence.
3.)I have located a lost cousin through my web pages from a posting I found
on an Italian Heritage Page on the internet.
4.)I thank all of you for making my web pages so successful but I do know and recognize that there are few people out in the world that would donate hundreds of hours each year to gain a respect and knowledge to connect our Italian Roots together again and connect families that have been seperated
due to the immigrations or other factors in peoples lives. I thank you for
all the wonderful people visiting my pages and the great emails.
5.)Meeting People in the world with my same surname is interesting to me.
6.)To learn from other's,my Italian Heritage by sharing recipes, traditions,
customs,holidays and celebrations,etc...
7.)To find lost cousins by comparing our family history, therefore expanding
our family history together.
My Future Goals are to keep working on my book about all my trips to Italy
and to keep expanding my webpages to help others in which I am dedicated in doing.I will search forever to expand my family history and find more of my
cousins where ever the road might lead me.
